Motorists using Waiyaki Way should prepare for traffic disruption after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a temporary partial closure of the Mombasa-bound lanes between Kempinski and the Museum Hill Interchange.

The **Waiyaki Way closure will take effect from Thursday, October 8, to Saturday, November 7**, allowing KeNHA to undertake highway maintenance works along the affected section.

In a public notice dated October 1, KeNHA said motorists would continue using the sections of the road that remain open during the maintenance period. Drivers have also been advised to consider alternative routes to minimise delays.

The authority urged motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals deployed along the affected section.

The closure is expected to affect traffic movement through **Westlands, Museum Hill and surrounding areas**, particularly during Nairobi's morning and evening peak hours. Waiyaki Way is one of the city's major transport corridors, connecting central Nairobi with Westlands and areas further west, including Kikuyu.

For motorists travelling towards the western side of Nairobi, the temporary closure could mean longer journey times as traffic is redirected onto the remaining lanes and surrounding roads.

KeNHA said normal traffic operations on Waiyaki Way will resume once the maintenance works are completed.

The latest **Waiyaki Way traffic disruption** comes after several road and infrastructure projects have affected movement along the corridor in recent months.

In June, KeNHA announced the partial closure of the Nakuru-bound carriageway between Karuna Close and Westlands Roundabout. The works were intended to facilitate pedestrian safety improvements, including the extension of the existing footbridge at Dunhill Towers and construction of the proposed Fogo Gaucho–QuickMart Westlands footbridge.

That closure ran from June 25 to September 25, with KeNHA saying the works were aimed at improving pedestrian safety while maintaining vehicle movement along the highway.

Waiyaki Way also experienced additional pressure in September after maintenance and construction works on the Nairobi Expressway affected traffic exiting at the Westlands Exit.

MOJA Expressway Company announced works on the elevated expressway deck after the Nairobi Westlands Exit from September 8 to September 20\. During the works, motorists exiting the expressway were directed onto the lower A8 road along Waiyaki Way.

The diversion increased the number of vehicles using Waiyaki Way, with motorists reporting delays and traffic queues during peak hours.

The latest KeNHA announcement means motorists using the **Waiyaki Way, Westlands and Museum Hill corridor** will once again need to plan ahead.

Drivers are encouraged to leave earlier, consider alternative routes where possible and follow directions from traffic marshals throughout the one-month maintenance period.

For commuters, the key dates to remember are **October 8 to November 7**, when the partial closure will remain in effect.
